Coming Fall 2025!

Description:

Organically grown, open pollinated. Approximately 20 seeds per packet.

Tomate limachino is a Chilean heirloom from the town of Limache in the Valparaiso region, northwest of Santiago.

Preserved in situ through local cultivation from 1938, this landrace variety started to become displaced by foreign tomato varieties in the 1960s due to its short shelf life and brief harvest period, and almost entirely disappeared in the 1980s; in 2015, only four growers in the Limache area still grew and kept Limachino seed (1). Efforts by INIA and Universidad Técnica Federico Santa María revived this cultural legacy, making it commercially available again after 40 years (2).

Large, ribbed, beefsteak tomato that is pink in color with occasional yellow streaking. Rich in lycopene and antioxidant compounds; celebrated for its distinctive tangy-sweet taste, bright aroma, and firm yet juicy texture. Short post-harvest window—approximately 4–7 days before quality declines, so it’s best enjoyed fresh in dishes like traditional ensalada chilena.

Original seeds sourced from Vivero el Pueblito in Liray, Chile. Grown organically here at LCF since 2024.
