Garlic & the Farm

Yes! While we observe organic growing practices on our farm, we are not currently certified at this time. We are what’s considered a micro-farm and certification is prohibitively expensive; also, due to our size and scale, USDA regulations allow us to be exempt from certification while still using the term ‘organically grown.’
Feel free to check out our Growing Practices page for more information. We embrace transparency and are always happy to answer any of your questions about our farm and practices - just reach out!

We are glad you asked! We have a comprehensive guide here on the website under our ‘Garlic’ page. You can learn how much to order, how to store, how to plant, and more!
Please reach out to us if you have any questions - we’re here to help you be successful. You can also follow along with us as we post about our garlic growing progress, tips, and tricks on Facebook or Instagram.

Planting cloves from the largest bulbs results in larger bulbs. Seed garlic is our largest grade of garlic for sale, over 2” in diameter.
Culinary garlic, or food garlic or eating garlic, is under 2” in diameter. It’s perfect for eating and may even store a bit longer than seed garlic due to the smaller size.
Learn more about garlic grades in our ‘Garlic’ page.

Garlic is a labor-intensive product - from planting, to growing and weeding, to lifting and peeling and prepping, all of which is done by hand at smaller scales. Organically-grown garlic also requires more expensive inputs (compost, fertilizer, etc.), and our garlic pricing reflects all of this at our micro-scale.
Knowing how labor intensive it is - you have to ask how the stuff at the store is so stupidly cheap? There are various documentaries, videos, and news articles out there explaining why. Give it a search, and you’ll no doubt be buying local and growing your own like we do.
-
We are an extremely small operation - quantities are very limited.
Garlic is harvested at our farm sometime in late June or early July, weather and growth depending. After harvest, it needs to cure for a few weeks, then be cleaned, processed, and inventoried before it’s available for ordering.
You should start seeing pre-order options available sometime in mid-July through early August. In-stock listings should appear mid-August through mid-September.
If you are interested in reserving a certain quantity or variety outside of these time frames, please contact us.
You can also keep up-to-date on when we have ordering open or garlic in stock by signing up for our newsletter, or following us on Instagram and Facebook.

Garlic is perishable produce. We take great care in all steps of preparation and shipment to you, but once it leaves our hands, there are many variables that can affect the success of its performance. We cannot guarantee that our garlic will perform well for you. We encourage you to read our ‘Garlic’ page to learn how to store, plant, and grow your garlic.
The storage estimates on our garlic are just that - estimates. We make no guarantees on the exact amount of time that your garlic will last; the shelf life of your garlic may be longer or shorter depending on your storage conditions. Head over to our ‘Garlic’ page to learn how to best store your bulbs.
